Harder Growing Up 11-7-11 Commentary

Monday, November 07, 2011

(audio)

As many of you know this last Friday, November 4th my radio commentary program on KCRO radio ended but from time to time I will post a commentary here on my blog. Today I am doing the first one of those.

I want read something I wrote in a newsletter that I send out to family, and others who pray and support the work I do.

I believe it is harder to grow up today than in other times. No debate it has never been easy going through your teens or preteens. However once the same values and messages were preached in the church, in the school house, and in the home. Not today. You see the value that all human life is a gift from God put down. You see marriages breaking up perhaps even in your own home. You see anyone who stands up for God or faith in a higher power ridiculed by the media. You see different churches by a single vote of her leaders no longer calling sin what the Bible calls sin. So yes it is harder growing up today but as soul who has worked with young people for many years I am trying through what I do to show young people there are values like family, and faith in God that will remain even when things are shaky.

What do you think?

Is youth ministry and youth groups good for churches 10-11-11 Commentary

Is youth ministry and youth groups good for churches. Producers of the documentary film Divided: Is Age-Segregated Ministry Multiplying or Dividing the Church is raising concerns whether modern youth ministry is contrary to scripture. As a soul who has worked in youth ministry and with young people in the church and out of the church for years I believe youth ministry if done right can add to the mission of the church.

If the leaders of the youth group are committed to preaching/teaching young people the Bible, showing them their need for Christ, and helping them grow in their understanding of God, and the Bible the youth group is a good thing. However if youth leaders ever forget the Bible and God and youth groups become a place to put the kids so they don’t get in the way of the real ministry to the adults it is not a good thing.

Cemetery is banning the mention of God 8-11-11

If you are like me when a love one dies doesn’t it help if somebody says God Bless you or God cares about you.

Well there is one place that isn’t taking place. A Texas-based law firm that defends First Amendment freedoms finds it "completely outrageous" that the Houston National Cemetery is banning the mention of God from veterans' funerals. Liberty Institute has filed suit on behalf of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), The American Legion, and The National Memorial Ladies. When a love one has a family member die they need to be shown and told the love of God.

This sounds like something which would take place in the old Soviet Union. A place where there was no hope after death.

CA. School Values 8-8-11

Do you want your children and or grandchildren being taught values that contradict yours. Well that is what might take place in the California public schools or as I call them government schools.

A California's bill that would require public schools to teach about prominent figures in lesbian, "gay," bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) history has gone to the governor's desk for signing.

I hope Gov. Brown rejects this bill but since he is from the left when it comes to politics I would not be shocked if he gives this bill his blessing. Again this may just be another good reason for the good people of California to remove their kids from the education camps known as the government schools don’t you think.

NEA Should Put Children First July 26, 2011 Commentary

Don’t you think the main job of those who educate our children are to educate the children. The nation's largest education union has endorsed President Barack Obama's 2012 re-election campaign.

Members of the National Education Association voted to support Obama at their annual convention in Chicago on the 4Th of July. The leadership of this union cares more about politics than helping children. They oppose school choice everywhere which would give poor kids the same chances as rich kids to get a good education.

It is a dishonor when a teacher's union puts politics ahead of the kids. It is also sad because there are many good teachers in the government schools who are putting the kids first.

Children Rights July 21, 2011 Commentary

I don’t believe children are adults or should have the same rights as adults do you? The Supreme Court in a ruling late last month said the state of California could not prohibit the sale or rental of violent video games to children.

Two of the justices went against the majority one of them was Clarence Thomas who said the founding fathers didn’t mean the right of minors to access speech without having to go through their parents when they wrote the first amendment.

This should remind us that parents need to be the ones in charge of their children. The court needs to embrace the fact children aren’t adults. Children can’t drive, drink, or vote.

Parents should raise kids not the courts.

Parents Helping Kids Do Wrong July 13, 2011 Commentary

Don’t you think parents should be teaching what is right to their kids. "Honey, I served the kids!". One out of every 10 drinks poured in America is given to an underage kid. And parents may be the biggest reason why.
According to the government, 30% of teens said their last alcoholic drink was served at home. And 21% said a parent or other family member played bartender.
It's part of a new trend. Moms and dads buy the booze to keep kids under their roof and off the road. But teaching them to drink responsibly is no substitute for parenting responsibly.
Parents should be teaching their kids what is right and wrong not encouraging them to do things which are wrong. Do you think in some cases it might be the parents who need to be grounded.

June 30, 2011 Commentary Helping Gays

Don’t you think parents, teachers, youth Pastors, and Sunday School teachers should help youth not to follow a lifestyle that causes them trouble.

Teens can be troubled, but a huge new study released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that gay, lesbian or bisexual adolescents are more likely than their heterosexual peers to take unhealthy risks.

The CDC found that gay , lesbian or bisexual students had higher rates for seven of the 10 health risk categories: violence, attempted suicide, smoking, drinking, other drug use, risky sexual behaviors and weight management issues.

This should be a call to all of us who care about young people to help them not to engage in a lifestyle that will give them nothing but trouble. What do you think.

June 29, 2011 Commentary Happy About Divorce

Don’t you think there are somethings that takes place in our world that we shouldn’t make jokes about. A new TV Show has started on the TV Land Network called Happily Divorced. As a person who has worked with children from third grade all the way up to the junior high years I know divorce is not a happy thing.

In some cases where there is abuse it is better than living with the abuser but still it is not something to laugh over.

Divorce is not a laughing matter for our culture, or for the children from divorce homes. Shame on TV land don’t you think they could create something truly funny that hasn’t hurt anyone.

June 13, 2011 commentary

Would you take a stand for marriage even if it would cost you your job. Well that is what happen to hockey analyst, Damian Goddard. Damian was Angry about how his values were being slammed, he logged on to twitter. "I completely... support... the traditional and TRUE meaning of marriage," he typed.

Hours later, his employer sent out a message of its own. "Today's tweet from Damian Goddard does not reflect the views of Rogers Sportsnet." And to prove it, they fired him. "There seems to be a double standard here," said one newspaper, "with the message being: If you don't believe what we believe, we'll brand you a hater and... run you out of town"...

When asked about the outcome, Damian says he doesn't regret it. "I'm a devout... Catholic. It's not about hate at all. Amen.
